Basic Pizza Margherita - Recipe
Pizza is one of the most famous and delicious Italian foods. Following this recipe you can prepare from scratch a yummy homemade pizza with a delicious filling and a crusty texture. An healthy and perfect meal for the whole family.

Preparing the Pizza Dough:
Prepare the pizza dough as described in section: How to make Pizza dough ↪ (required time, at least 1 hour).
Briefly, mix 1 lb of sifted bread flour, 2 teaspoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix well, then add 1/2 oz of instant yeast, 1 1/2 tablespoons of extravirgin olive oil and 1 cup of lukewarm water.
Knead until you obtain an homogeneous dough. Form a ball of dough and let rest, covered with a moistened kitchen cloth, for at least 30 minutes up to 3-4 hours to let the dough rise at room temperature.
Roll the dough into a layer about 1/5 inches high.
Preparing the Topping:
While the dough is rising, in a small bowl mix the tomato sauce, the diced tomato sauce, oregano, extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper.
Cover the rolled pizza dough with the flavored tomato sauce.
Spread a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
Baking the Pizza:
Bake in the lower shelf of the pre-heaten oven at 500 F for about 10/15 minutes.
If desired, garnish with whole fresh basil leaves before serving.
The use of a baking stone can greatly improve the result by making the pizza crustier and even more delicious!
You may create your own pizza with the flavors you like the most such as pepperoni, vegetables, cheeses, prosciutto, sausages, mushrooms, ham or chicken.
